Ibiza & Formentera

13th to 17th of August 2016

Introduction:

In the beginning of 2016 my cousin (Stefan) told me that he will go to Ibiza for his summer job... well that was already a good reason to go ... By the end of June my other cousin (Ani) was visiting me in Paris and we decided to go there together... it would have also been my first time to Spain... such a shame ... but I will soon correct this mistake :)
Meanwhile, I wanted to check if Ibiza is only a party destination or if there was something more to explore? Well, indeed there is so much to explore on this island...

13th of August

I reached Ibiza in the afternoon and met my cousin (Ani) who came to pick me up from the airport. We have decided to rent a car as we didn't have so much time and wanted to be more flexible.
As soon as we arrived we went to drop our luggage in the hotel (which was near by San Antonio and around 20km away from the city of Ibiza) and went to meet my cousin Stefan in Ibiza. He gave us a free entrance for a party in what was supposed to be the nicest summer clubs: Destino. Quite a fancy place but with a great summer mood music.
As we were tired we spent only 2 hours there and left for San Antonio to enjoy a drink at Café Del Mar... Well surprise! In the club next to it (Mambo) Bon Sinclair was mixing so we also had the opportunity to see him live. An excellent way to start our vacations...

14th of August:

In the morning we went to pick up Stefan from Ibiza and decided to try as much beaches as we can with a minimum stay of few hours to enjoy...
Well this day changed my opinion about the island of Ibiza... Indeed, the beaches were amazing & the water clear (quite similar to the water I have seen in some places in Asia). While driving, we found some really good spots (especially when getting lost) for pictures. Really Mediterranean style of houses and landscapes.
We also saw a lot of families with children going there which was confirming that my point of view that Ibiza is more than just a party destination.

Here are some of the beaches we did:
- Es Torrent
- Cala d'Hort with a really amazing view
- Cala Tarida
- Cala Conte to meet the sunset.

In the night we went to San Antonio for a drink and especially to buy tickets for the David Guetta's party (BIG) on Monday. I couldn't wait :)
15th of August:

Well the 15th of August is my name day... Really nice because i think i have spent it by the best way so far.
Starting the day with a diving session with Ani... I was dreaming again for diving and it was also the opportunity to dive in the Mediterranean sea for the first time. I have always heard that diving in the Mediterranean sea is as good as in Asia or elsewhere... Well I can agree and disagree.
We went for a dive at 12-14m and we were lucky to have a very calm and clear water. Really nice visibility. The underwater world is rich and managed to see several fishes and octopuses and nice spots. However, what I really missed were the corals and some exotic fishes or turtles, something that I was used to see in Asia, but in any case I was so happy being underwater again :)

There also was a funny part of Ani going underwater... As it has been long time that she hasn't dived she was stressing out... and when getting in the water she was already presenting all the possible proves of a panic person (wild open eyes, panic...). By the end she did really great and we had a real fun :)

Second part of the day, we went to the beach for few hours and went for the what came for: David Guetta's party !
So for what I understood there are two types of party: day parties (from 18h to 00h) and night parties (from 00h to early morning). For David Guetta we went for daily one which was happening in the Ushuaïa Hotel. Really amazing place with a lot of space, bars and a nice fountain in the middle of the main swimming pool looking like a tap :)
We arrived there around 19h, got a lot of goodies and enjoyed a beer and the different DJs playing. David Guetta was supposed to start at 22h. At some moment the time has came... He appeared ! Well even if I am not his biggest fan, I cannot disagree on the fact that he creates an amazing atmosphere between the people through his music. I didn't feel the two hours passing. Absolutely great spectacle of music and effects which made want to do it again.
16th of August:

The day after we decided to go for a day trip to the Formentera island which is about an hour away from Ibiza by normal boat and where a big part of it is under the Unesco protection. It is a really small island but one of the lady in the boat offered us to rent a scooter so we can avoid loosing time and visit maximum of things... We followed her idea and rented it one. The weather was not really good (very cloudy) and started to rain once arrived there but it got much better few hours later....
So once arrived we went for a lunch in San Francisco (the main city of the island) and then to:
- Es Pujols
- La Savina
- Platjia de Llevant
- Platjia de Illietes

All those places are located on the North East part of the island very close on to each other. Almost all this area is protected which makes sens... indeed it was much cleaner and wild over there. The beach and the water were clear and amazing again. The beaches are much bigger with much less people compared with Ibiza which is something I appreciated :)

After it we went on the other side of the island near the Lighthouse where we could admire a splendid view over the sea. And we finally dropped hour towels on the beach Midjom. Before leaving, on the port we met one of the Olympic champions from the Rio Olympics coming back to Formentera... a big fan club was screaming, singing and congratulating the hero. Quite emotional moment, because it remained me, me waiting for the my dad coming back from the different sport events.

We went back to Ibiza and enjoyed one last night with all the three cousins reunited in the biggest club Privilege where Stefan had again arranged free entrances and where we had a nice paint party from which I still have some colors on my clothes... :)

The day after was already the day of departure, so we enjoyed a bit of the sun on the beach nearby our hotel before going to the airport.
In conclusion,
those few days were really amazing together with my cousins. I did enjoy Ibiza in all its aspects: party and beach. I would love to go back again.
in two words: gracias, Ibiza !
